My love for the beach is expressed in two related series of watercolor and ink paintings: Leisure at the Beach and Seashells.
Leisure at the Beach – narrative figure beach scenes interpret interpersonal relationships occurring
during leisure activities observed on the beaches
of Long Island's East-End. Social interaction reflects humor, alienation and a sense of place.
Role-playing and societal expectations are questioned. Dialogues develop through the viewer’s imagination and associations. These plein-air watercolor and ink paintings are expressionist and representational in style.
Seashells – watercolor and ink paintings combine forms, textures, patterns, and colors of shells and corals gathered along local and distant beaches. They are casually arranged to emphasize the abstract qualities of the individual elements as well as their compositional possibilities.
